Feelin Pretty Good
I skated over the Blue Ridge Mountains in two days. The mountains were not too bad at the time, but my legs didn't have much kick afterwords. I took Sunday off. I stayed with the MacDonalds, who were very hospitable and with whom I had a wonderful time. My legs thanked me for the time off, but were a little stubborn to get back into the swing of things today, on which I made them travel about 47 miles. Road surfaces have remained generally good, and traffic hasn't been bad except for the tail end of today as I am nearing Roanoke. Tonight I'm staying with a very hospitable family at Hollins University, and they have a piano! I'm psyched, I'm going to go play that for a while now.

Awesome job Jack! Nice to see you've had families to stay with, it would be so cool to just meet all those people along the way.
The dream, albeit slowly, is coming true. Congrats on the first chain of mountains and keep it up! Take care of yourself.
It's weird the way that you can only get the pain in your legs to stop by skating more. Brutal self-inflicted torture is the always the right answer. Weeks ahead you will begin to hallucinate. I got a cell phone call from God while crossing the Maricopa Mountains in a single run. I also saw people lining the roads I skated. Your brain will play some strange tricks on you to alleviate the pain. I eventually learned to go somewhere else. I went not exactly out-of-body per se, but, somewhere else.
You are going to get to meet some incredible people along the way. I still talk to the people that I met.
It's good to hear that you are listening to your body. A wise man told me to, "stop before you have to". It is sage advice. You can also "earn" a day off by accumulating skated miles past your goal.
I really hope the backpack thing works. I was actually going to skate the last week of my run with a backpack and send the wife home, after the car died in Mobile, Alabama.
Keep blogging, the world is watching.
